The traditional commemoration ceremony for the 1914-18 Armistice will take place in Moustier-sur-Sambre on Wednesday, November 11, 2026. The event, organized by the Municipality of Jemeppe-sur-Sambre, will pay tribute to the victims of both world wars. This year, an unprecedented and touching memorial project, led by local youth, will be particularly highlighted.
The program will begin at 2:30 PM with a gathering at the Place de Moustier, in front of the war memorial. It will include the laying of wreaths and a speech by Philippe Carlier, president of the Patriotic Groups.
The commemoration will continue at the Gabrielle Bernard Cultural Centre with a speech by the mayor, Vincent Vanrossomme. The Youth Service will present a poignant tribute to former combatants, as well as a special recognition of Mrs. Fabienne Carlaire, a Belgian soldier.
The young people from the Youth Service will offer a different and human approach to the tribute, following their research into the real individual destinies of citizens, soldiers, or students whose lives were turned upside down by the turmoil of the war. This work was carried out with the help of Michel Flémal and the Genealogy Circle.
