New ground markings are gradually appearing in several streets of Jemeppe-sur-Sambre. These are the implementation of Suggested Cycle Lanes (BCS), an initiative aimed at improving mobility and road safety.
The primary objective of these lanes is twofold: firstly, to guide cyclists to the most appropriate position on the roadway, and secondly, to raise drivers' awareness of the presence of bicycles. These developments thus encourage a more harmonious and secure sharing of the road for all users.
Unlike a traditional cycle path, which is demarcated by two parallel discontinuous white lines and where stopping or parking is strictly prohibited, the suggested cycle lane does not have its own legal status under the Highway Code. It primarily serves as a visual tool for prevention and peaceful traffic management, allowing parking for motorized vehicles.
For detailed information on the operation and characteristics of these cycling facilities, you can consult the official information sheet available on the Wallonia Sécurothèque.
