Wallonia is launching ten Territorial Food Projects (PAT) to accelerate the transition to healthy and sustainable food, leveraging local dynamics and an investment of €10 million.

Wallonia is taking a new step in transforming its food system. Ten Territorial Food Projects (PAT) will strengthen local dynamics and turn regional ambitions into concrete solutions, closely involving producers, communities, and citizens. This initiative follows the Manger Demain strategy and the Food Wallonia 2022-2025 plan.
The goal is to better coordinate existing policies and initiatives related to food, considering its dimensions of health, social accessibility, environment, producer support, collective catering, short supply chains, and waste reduction.
To support this momentum, Wallonia is investing €10 million: €6 million for the ten PATs, funded for two years (2026-2027), and €4 million for collective catering, notably through the Green Deal Cantines Durables and the « Coup de pouce du local dans l'assiette » scheme.
These PATs bring together public, associative, economic, academic, social, and health actors at the local level to build food strategies adapted to each territory's realities. They aim to experiment with new solutions, develop awareness and training actions, guide citizens and project leaders, and create stronger links between sustainable local food supply and demand.
Diverse projects are planned, such as strengthening local outlets in the Cœur de Hainaut, supporting local authorities in the Verviers district, or experimenting with a local solidarity food fund and enhancing links between collective catering and local supply chains in Condroz-Famenne, including the Dinant, Beauraing, and Rochefort regions.
The initiative is coordinated by the Sustainable Development department of the Public Service of Wallonia (SPW), in collaboration with AVIQ, SPW Interior and Social Action, SPW Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environment, and SPW Economy, Employment, Research. The ambition is to gradually build a Walloon food system that is healthier, more sustainable, and accessible to all.
