A new milestone has been reached in enhancing Virton's natural spaces. The project to re-signpost six walking trails in the Rabais woods has just received significant financial backing. This subsidy, granted by the Walloon Minister for Tourism, Valérie Lescrenier, will fund the modernization of the local hiking infrastructure.
Led by the Syndicat d’Initiative de Virton (Virton Tourist Office), this initiative was developed in close partnership with the City of Virton. Initial steps included creating an updated map of the municipality's walking, cycling, and equestrian routes. Subsequently, a comprehensive dossier was compiled for the new signage, ensuring compliance with current standards and adding practical information for users.
Currently, the design of new wayfinding signs, visual elements, and bilingual (French-Dutch) information panels is underway. This work is supported by the DNF and J.-L. Frerotte.
The practical implementation on the ground will commence in the coming months with the installation of the new signage. The municipal forestry service will provide valuable assistance for the more demanding tasks, while the Tourist Office team will be involved in placing and regularly maintaining these signs.
This ambitious collective project aims to better showcase the Rabais woods. It will improve orientation for walkers and enrich the experience for visitors, whether they are exploring the region on foot, by bike, or on horseback.
