Radon, an odorless and invisible radioactive gas, can accumulate in homes and is the second leading cause of lung cancer after smoking, according to the World Health Organization. To raise awareness and take action, the Radon Action campaign has been organized since 2013 by the AFCN in collaboration with the Indoor Environment Analysis Services (SAMI) of the five Walloon provinces, coordinated by the Scientific Institute of Public Service (ISSeP), as well as with the Regional Intervention Cell for Indoor Pollution of Bruxelles Environnement (CRIPI).
In the municipality of Saint-Léger, key figures since the start of the collaboration with the AFCN show that 3.29% of homes have been tested at least once. Of these, 2.04% were identified as problematic. It is estimated that approximately 30 homes may still have high radon concentrations. Last year, 7 homes in the municipality were tested.
