Bastogne is actively promoting biodiversity through its hedge planting program. The municipality is providing shrub plants to citizens to help them establish their own hedges, a concrete action for the environment that helps reduce greenhouse gases, protect soils, and offer habitats for local wildlife such as bees and butterflies.
Since 2022, this initiative, initially launched by Jean-Pol BESSELING and now continued by Jean-Marc FRANCO, Alderman for the Environment, has already seen 62,000 plants put in the ground. This year, 7,000 new plants will be distributed to Bastogne residents, bringing the total to nearly 100,000 trees and shrubs planted through various municipal actions between 2018 and 2026.
To participate, citizens must register by Friday, November 6. The conditions require planting a hedge of a minimum of 5 meters and a maximum of 80 meters in length, using 2 plants per meter (up to 160 plants). A mandatory mix of 5 different varieties, distributed equally, is required.
Registrations are open via the online citizen portal at https://bastogne-formulaires.guichet-citoyen.be/plantons-des-haies/. For more information, you can contact the municipality by email at bna@bastogne.be or by phone at 061 62 16 74.
