The Municipal College of Nivelles has approved the sidewalk renovation project, estimated at over 2 million euros (incl. VAT), as part of its Transversal Strategic Plan (PST).

This initiative aims to strengthen pedestrian infrastructure and offer an alternative to cars for short daily trips. The goal is to create safe, continuous, and comfortable pedestrian pathways, adapted to the needs of all users, including people with reduced mobility, the elderly, parents with strollers, and children.
The selection of sections to be renovated is based on a diagnosis established by a technical and political steering committee, supplemented by citizen feedback. This approach allows investments to be focused where needs are greatest.
The work will notably concern the Rue des Récollets, Rue de Charleroi, Rue des Frères Grislein, a section of Rue Samiette, a section of Rue de Mons, a section of Rue de la Procession, Rue Ferdinand Delcroix, Avenue de Burlet, Parvis Notre Dame, Rue Théodore Berthels, Rues Saint-André and de Bruxelles, as well as Rue de Dinant à Baulers.
A progressive renovation is planned, with regular monitoring of other roads for punctual repairs. Some streets will undergo a complete renovation. Citizen reports to the Public Works Department (travaux@nivelles.be) remain essential for defining future priorities.
