The city of Nivelles inaugurated new heritage signage on October 5, 2026, beginning with the Palais de Justice, to showcase its rich historical and architectural heritage.

The first plaque was installed at the Palais de Justice (Place Albert Ier) in the presence of the communal authorities. This initiative aims to highlight the richness of local heritage by targeting specific Nivelles buildings of historical and architectural value. These signs, equipped with a QR-Code, will allow citizens to access detailed information and historical images via the Municipal Museum website.
This project, initiated by the previous administration and included in the 2019-2024 Strategic Plan, replaces outdated signage. It involved several municipal departments, including the Museum, Communication, IT, Public Works, and Urban Planning, in collaboration with the Walloon Heritage Agency (AWaP) for fixation criteria on listed monuments.
The Palais de Justice, an emblematic building in the city center, was chosen for this initial enhancement. Other plaques will be progressively placed in the coming days on a list of selected buildings, including the Old Seminary, the Collégiale Sainte-Gertrude, and several historic hôtels.
