Following their victory in the Belgian Ekiden Championship on October 18th, USBW fielded two teams at the Paris Ekiden. Both teams met expectations on the flat, performance-favoring course.
The women's team, consisting of Yseult van Vyve, Valentine Mathy, Elea Gronemberger, Roxane Cleppe, Eleonore Andre, and Elisa Van Colen, finished in a superb second place with a time of 2h29:35. They have now claimed the Belgian Record, improving the previous record by 1 minute and 38 seconds, which had been held by Daring club de Leuven since 2012.
The men's team, with a slight alteration from the Belgian Championship lineup, comprised Efrem Tekle, Marvin D’Aurilio, Loïc Sombaert, Daniel Gebru, Abdo Razzak Hassan Guirreh, and Thibault De Rijdt. They secured a strong third place in 2h06:52, improving the Belgian Francophone Athletics League record by 1 minute and 17 seconds, a record previously held by Royal football Club Liégeois since 2006.
Congratulations to the athletes for these outstanding results. Special thanks to Olivier Parvais and Thibault De Rijdt for organizing this trip.
