The Zonal Security Plan for the Jemeppe-sur-Sambre Police Zone for the period 2026-2031 was developed following the analysis of 249 responses to a citizen survey. Divisional Commissioner and Chief of Police, Raphaël Lefèvre, emphasized that the public consultation was heard and resident feedback was integrated alongside that of public authorities.
Three major priorities emerge from this consultation. Road safety, particularly excessive speed and heavy goods vehicle traffic, remains the primary concern, with planned reinforcement of speed controls. The fight against narcotics constitutes the second strong focus, in response to the increase in sales points, targeted actions will be programmed to counter the multiplying 'house deal' phenomenon.
Prevention in schools will also be strengthened. Furthermore, the handling of domestic violence and moral offenses completes this priority triad. Two specific points of attention are added: incivilities and cybercrime, which is seeing a rise in complaints.
“"Regarding cybercrime, the most important thing is to prevent the offense. Once it's committed, it's almost already too late"
Chief of Police, Raphaël Lefèvre, stresses the importance of prevention in cybercrime matters, as once an offense is committed, it is often too late to act effectively. This plan marks a reorientation of police resources to address new field emergencies. It will be evaluated at least annually by the Zonal Security Council.
