Wallonia intends to generalize special and adapted theory exam sessions for heavy goods and bus permits. This project, adopted in its second reading, aims to promote equal opportunities while ensuring road safety requirements are maintained.
This system, already available for the B permit, will now be extended to candidates for C1, C1+E, C, C+E, D1, D1+E, D, and D+E permits, provided they meet the specified conditions. These categories cover goods transport vehicles (3.5 to 7.5 tonnes for C1, trucks for C) and passenger transport vehicles (up to 16 seats for D1, buses and coaches for D), including those with trailers.
The adapted theory exam allows certain candidates to take the test under conditions that account for particular difficulties. The examiner reads the questions and answer options aloud twice, can clarify terms without guiding the candidate to the correct answer, and the candidate has 20 seconds to respond, compared to 15 seconds in a standard session. The content and level of requirement remain strictly identical for all.
Since the implementation of the scheme for the B permit on November 1, 2024, 11,742 candidates have already taken their theory exam under these conditions: 9,513 in special sessions and 2,229 in adapted sessions. A total of 1,740 sessions have been organized during this period. The extension to professional permits should ensure greater consistency across different permit categories and provide a concrete response to candidates who may encounter similar difficulties.
