The Municipality of Florennes is highlighting passerine birds during Tree Week 2026 by organizing a free distribution of trees and shrubs on Sunday, November 29th, at Place Verte.

Green spaces are essential for daily well-being. By enhancing the 'ordinary' nature in our gardens, we contribute to safeguarding the 'extraordinary' nature of our region. For the 2026 edition, Tree Week is honoring birds, particularly passerines.
Planting a variety of trees and shrubs in one's garden offers passerines, which make up the majority of garden birds (tits, sparrows, blackbirds, thrushes, finches, starlings, and goldfinches), a lasting shelter and food source. Welcoming these birds helps restore a fragile natural balance.
Passerines need shelter and food throughout the year. They feed on insects in spring and summer, and on berries or seeds in autumn and winter. Nesting also requires protected locations. Therefore, a diversity of plant species is crucial to meet their seasonal needs.
Planting trees and shrubs adapted to our regions enables passerines to return, settle, and sustainably repopulate our ecosystems.
The distribution of trees and shrubs will take place on Sunday, November 29th, 2026, from 9:30 AM to 1:00 PM, at Place Verte in Florennes. The distributed species will include trees such as chestnut, common walnut, and various willows; shrubs like hawthorn, guelder rose, and hazel; as well as small fruits like redcurrants and raspberries.
Further information on the offered species is available via a link to the Walloon Public Service.
