The Ciney communal college approved 2026 budget amendments, flood control works, and the Tourist Office's certification during its October 5 meeting.

The Ciney Communal Council meeting, held on Monday, October 5, 2026, began with a presentation of the actions of the Parc Naturel Cœur de Condroz. This rural territory, established in 2020 and comprising six municipalities, aims to preserve natural resources while supporting economic and social development. Various initiatives concerning natural resources, forests, agricultural practices, short supply chains, circular economy, and energy were presented.
Councilors then approved budget modifications n°2 for the ordinary and extraordinary 2026 fiscal years. Presented by Echevin des Finances Guy Milcamps as a technical adjustment, the ordinary budget closed with a surplus of €30,508, and a global result of €1,639,000. Although the ordinary surplus decreased by approximately €400,000 to €30,000, Guy Milcamps highlighted the achievement of a balanced budget without adjusting revenues. The C.Vous group, through Olivier Didion, expressed a different interpretation of the figures, pointing to increasing difficulty in closing the ordinary fiscal year with a surplus and a non-existent margin. Consequently, the C.Vous councilors voted against the budget modifications.
Two public works contracts were unanimously approved. The first concerns flood prevention measures in the center of Ciney, specifically on rue du Commerce, a project explained by Echevin des travaux Frédérick Botin. The second contract, valued at €650,000 including VAT, will focus on road maintenance. The aim is to shift from reactive to preventive measures, extending the lifespan of roads by at least ten years through resurfacing, with interventions planned in all villages by 2030.
The Council also unanimously voted on the de-designation of the chapel in Haid. Councilor C.Vous Anne Pirson noted that the new Haid committee might wish to discuss the chapel's future use with the College.
Finally, the application for certification of the Ciney Tourist Office was put to a vote. Following new requirements from the Walloon Tourism Code, a fresh application was submitted. The opposition group C.Vous, represented by Laurence Daffe, questioned the sector's professionalization and the potential increase in working hours for the project manager. Bourgmestre Frédéric Deville stated that this was not currently planned due to budgetary reasons. The C.Vous group abstained from the vote (15 yes, 6 abstentions).
