The City of Ciney has launched the 5th edition of its participatory budget, an initiative allowing Cinaciens to become more involved in municipal decisions. An envelope of €50,000 is again available to fund citizen projects. The call for projects is now open.
This participatory budget allows residents and associations to propose the allocation of a portion of the extraordinary annual municipal budget to the realization of one or more citizen projects. The process unfolds in three phases: first, the proposal of ideas by citizens; then, the vote for their preferred projects; and finally, the support of project leaders by the Commune in their implementation. These phases will extend until the end of June 2027.
The first phase, the call for projects, was officially launched on Thursday, October 15, 2026. Project submissions will be accepted between November 16, 2026, and February 16, 2027. Any citizen over 18 years old with a link to the commune, as well as associations (de facto or recognized ASBLs), can submit an idea or project, provided it sustainably contributes to improving the communal living environment and serves the general interest.
The second phase involves the selection of projects. The submitted proposals will be analyzed, particularly for their eligibility, between February 16 and March 30, 2027.
The third phase, the citizen vote, will take place between March 30 and May 15, 2027. Following this, an analysis of the voting results will be conducted between May 15 and June 15, 2027, the date when the winning projects and their allocated amounts will be officially announced.
Examples of projects realized or in progress thanks to previous participatory budgets include the acquisition of an electric bicycle adapted for wheelchair users, the creation of a footbridge over the Ywoigne river in Chevetogne, and the establishment of a toy library.
