Following the Communal Council meeting on November 13, 2025, a new measure prohibits the use of firecrackers and fireworks across the entire territory of Arlon. Exceptions are possible only for December 31st and National Day, subject to prior request to the College and with fireworks producing contained noise.
This decision aims to enhance safety by preventing accidents and fires, protect animals from stress and disruption, and preserve public tranquility by reducing noise pollution and improving air quality. The ban, even if partial, establishes a clear framework and discourages misuse.
Article 9 bis of the regulation states that the use of firecrackers and fireworks is prohibited from both public and private spaces, except on the mentioned dates and with prior authorization from the Mayor or the Communal College. Authorized fireworks must produce contained noise.
The measure applies to anyone wishing to organize a fireworks display for a public event, as well as private individuals who wish to set off fireworks in their gardens. A public event is defined as being freely accessible to the public, whether free or paid, without a specific link between the organizer and the attendees.
For fireworks displays of a public nature, an event declaration must be submitted via the website demeve.luxembourg.be at least 60 days in advance, accompanied by a "safety – firing plan" dossier submitted to the communal administration. This dossier must include the safety zone, the list of products used, the schedule, the firing address, and the identity of the safety manager, in accordance with the requirements on pages 36 and 37 of the Safety Rules Memo for Events published by the Zone de Secours Sud Luxembourg.
For fireworks displays of a private nature, a written request must be submitted to the Communal College, with a "safety – firing plan" dossier similar to that required for public events.
The Event Planning service remains available for any questions at planu@arlon.be or 0494 82 97 69. In case of an infraction, an administrative fine of €175 to €350 may be applied.
