Selective trap for queen Asian hornets, designed for preventive capture.

The municipality of Villers-la-Ville has captured 2,359 founding Asian hornet queens thanks to exemplary citizen mobilization, thereby reducing the risk of thousands of nests.

The fight against the Asian hornet is bearing fruit in Villers-la-Ville. The provincial trapping campaign for founding queens resulted in the capture of 1,789 queens, adding to the 570 queens captured during the municipal campaign, bringing the total to 2,359.
« The municipality of Villers-la-Ville has been exemplary, explains Julie Charles, the alderman for the Environment. We are held up as an example for the excellent citizen mobilization. The number of traps in the area was very significant, and the results are good. Thank you to everyone for this involvement. »
Trapping founding queens in the spring is a crucial preventive measure. Each queen captured before she starts her nest prevents the potential birth of thousands of hornets during the season. These traps are specifically calibrated to capture this size of Asian hornet, thus protecting bees and other pollinating insects.
Given the continued significant presence of the Asian hornet, mobilization efforts are ongoing. New trapping kits can be ordered through the « Gardiens de la ruche » initiative of the Brabant wallon. The deadline to submit a request is set for January 1, 2027, at 6 PM. It is possible to order 1 to 4 traps. Individuals who received traps in the spring of 2026 are encouraged to keep and reuse them.
To order your traps, visit the Brabant wallon website. Additionally, a subsidy for the destruction of Asian hornet nests may be granted at the municipal level until November 15.
