The Province of Walloon Brabant is relaunching its "Guardians of the Hive" campaign to combat the Asian hornet and protect bees.

Facing the proliferation of the Asian hornet, an invasive alien species, the Province of Walloon Brabant is continuing its "Guardians of the Hive: a united territory for biodiversity" initiative. The aim is to curb the spread of this insect and minimize its impact on domestic bees and local biodiversity.
Citizens are invited to become "guardians of the hive" by requesting their free kit, which includes one or more selective traps. These devices, easy to set up in gardens, effectively capture Asian hornets while preserving other insects and allowing for monitoring of this invasive species' presence.
The campaign encourages residents to complete a form to receive their trap before January 1, 2027.
The results from the 2026 operation show 13,750 traps distributed to citizens, leading to the capture of 22,744 queens and 1,442 workers. Specifically in the municipality of Lasne, 667 traps were distributed, resulting in 110 worker captures and 999 queen captures.
